Trey And TAB At The TAB

Trey and TAB got right down to business at the Tabernacle last night. Set one was pretty standard, with tour-staples including “Shine,” “MLC,” and “Sultans Of Swing.” For the acoustic session, Trey played the first “Josie Wales” of the tour.
Set two saw a rarely played “Windora Bug” make an appearance, played only one other time this tour. To encore, Trey threw in the first “Heavy Things” to spice it up.

Trey & TAB Hit The Fillmore
Trey and TAB returned to the Fillmore Friday night, opting for a model similar to the first couple shows of the tour. Tonight there was no acoustic set, but that didn’t kill the mood at all. Standout versions of “Burlap Sack & Pumps” and “Mozambique” were highlights of the first set.
Set two saw the first “Peggy” of the tour; a tune Trey debuted during the small Fall 2008 run he did. Another smashing “Goodbye Head > Mr. Completely” also had the crowd moving.

The Hippie/Hipster Line Blurred In Night One Of Albany
In what perhaps was the most interesting night of the Fall Tour so far, Phish unleashed a load of surprises in night one of their Albany run. An early placed “Maze” in set one, the first “My Mind’s Got A Mind Of Its Own” and “Two Versions Of Me” of the year, “Timber,” and a set ending “Light” definitely stuck out as highlights.
Set two will certainly go down in the record books as one to remember, as Phish busted out TV On The Radio’s “Golden Age.” Hipsters everywhere will rejoice, and it makes me wonder if this is a new direction the band is heading in (they’ve previously soundchecked MGMT at Saratoga and Festival 8 this year). Perhaps we’ll be seeing the occasional electronic/hipster cover thrown into the mix more often. “On Your Way Down” was also a huge bust-out, seen only one other time since 1999 (Camden 2003). Page always shines in that tune, and handles the vocals so well. “Tomorrow’s Song” made its first ever appearance, emerging from a jammed out “Piper.” The night ended with a nod to birthday boy Jimi Hendrix, by playing a raging version of “Fire.”
This will be a show that will be talked about for years to come, and makes me even more excited for the MSG run next week. I hope everyone who was there had a blast, because it’s shows like this, that are the reason people follow Phish.
