Phish Announce Pay-Per-View MSG Video Streams

Looks like Couch Tour just got a massive upgrade, as Phish has just announced that they will offer pay-per-view video for their upcoming MSG run.  Fan streams on UStream and others have been nice, but let’s be honest…they’re a far cry from a nice view.

The pay-per-view packages will be available via LivePhish.com, in conjunction with Nugs.net.  You can purchase the three night run at a discounted price of $39.99 (saving 20%), or individual shows (December 30 and January 1 are selling for $14.99, and December 31 for $19.99).

This is a big move into real-time video for Phish.  The Allman Brothers had considerable success offering this last year for their Beacon run, so I imagine this will be a trial run to see if it’s a viable business move in the future.  If it is successful, it will certainly make the pain of missing a show that much better.  Phish has always been a leader in internet technology, embracing the web early on and being one of the first bands to offer live downloads of their shows.  It’s no surprise to see them taking a chance here.
